Growing up, the festive season wasn’t just a time of celebration—it was a time of togetherness, renewal, and boundless hope. I can still remember the aroma of spiced jollof rice wafting through the air, mingling with the melodies of Christmas carols playing from our old radio. My family, like many others, didn’t have much, but the joy we shared was abundant.
For my siblings and me, December was magical. The twinkling lights in our modest living room symbolised so much more than the season—they reminded us that even in moments of struggle, there was light and beauty to be found. We’d gather under the tree, not just to open gifts, but to share dreams. My mother always said, “This season isn’t just about what you receive, but about what you give and who you become.”
The Gift of Community
The spirit of giving was alive in every corner of our neighbourhood. Families exchanged dishes, neighbours dropped by to share stories, and everyone, no matter how small their resources, found ways to spread kindness. It was in those moments that I learned the value of community and connection.
As I reflect on those memories now, I realize how much they’ve shaped my journey as an entrepreneur and the heart behind the Black Female Founders Hub (BFFH). At its core, this season reminds us to pause and appreciate the power of relationships, the strength we find in each other, and the courage to keep dreaming.
At BFFH, this year has been nothing short of remarkable, and it’s all because of you—our community of dreamers, doers, and trailblazers. From launching new initiatives to celebrating your wins, 2024 has been a testament to what happens when Black women come together, lift each other up, and refuse to be limited by societal norms.
As we close the year, I can’t help but feel that same sense of gratitude I did as a child during the festive season. The joy of seeing your dreams take flight, the determination in your stories, and the power in your resilience—it’s a gift to witness and a privilege to support.
